No Naismith

#SailorsNaismith2016

Over the last 60 years a basketball legend has been forgotten by the sport he helped transform. Kenny Sailors, the pioneer of the modern day jump shot turns 95 today, January 14th and the Naismith Hall of Fame to this day has failed to recognize him as Coach Bob Knight declared;

“There is nobody in the sport during my lifetime that has raised the sport of basketball to the popularity that he did.  Kenny Sailors gave the world a game. He didn't give the United States a game, the sun of a gun gave the world a game. I am completely embarrassed for the basketball world that Kenny Sailors is missing from the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.”

As a community of basketball lovers, fans, and influencers, lets join together across networks, across the country, around the world and give credit to one of the greatest pioneers and basketball players to ever grace the sport we have all grown to love in ways we can not express. Let us all show the Naismith our love for Kenny and remind them of his contribution not only to the game, but to world wide basketball community.

Watch the short Hall of Fame video on Kenny Sailors with Bob Knight, Jay Bilas, Jerry Krause, and Jud Heathcote discussing the importance of Kenny.

“Larry Bird, Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul Jabbar, they are the players that impacted the game and I say Kenny Sailors has impacted the game even more than any of those.” Jud Heathcote

"It is a complete travesty that Kenny has has not been inducted and recognized for his achievements not only as a basketball player, but also as a WWII veteran in American Basketball. I am completely embarrassed for the basketball world that Kenny is missing from the Hall of Fame." Bob Knight

"Kenny Sailors is a huge... huge part of basketball, he casts a long shadow in the game.” Jay Bilas

“If I ever ran into him, I would just thank him for the gift that he gave basketball. Because, you know, it's something that I was able to use to play at the highest level, and earn a living doing something that I loved to do, and hestarted that legacy and created something that allowed me to be successful.”  Mark Price

“Kenny Sailors has never been recognized as someone significant in the historical development of the game and I think that’s a tragedy.  I think that’s an omission of history that we’ve got to have corrected, we have to recognize that one of the pioneers of the game of basketball has to be recognized for his contribution in developing the modern jump shot.” Jerry Krause

“People don’t realize the total capacity of what this guy has done.  But, most of all…it’s basketball and what he’s done, a two time all-American and the college records, the home record they had, the road record they had…. All of this stuff in itself is enough, but then he’s the guy that pioneered the modern jump shot.  Holy cow!  This changed basketball…it turned basketball on its head” Jim Brandenburg
